I’m really happy that this event is available. The last time I attended a common ground debate I felt that the non-religious audience was quite rude to the religious speaker, who did handle it gracefully. However, this event does go on throughout an entire school day. What if I can’t attend the entire time? Can I attend any part of it? I’m not sure what other students would be able to attend.
This will not be a debate. The goal is to respectfully understand different points of view and find what we have in common that can allow us to work together. I think it all begins with common human needs, from the biological to the needs for understanding, connection and love. It’s okay to attend part of the day. We’re hoping instructors will see the importance of this event and allow students to attend as much as possible. Thanks for asking.
